Energy efficient washing machines 'should be considered'

Category: Appliances and Consumer Electricals (14.05.2008)

There are a number of things consumers may wish to look for when considering upgrading their washing machine to a more energy efficient model, it has been reported.

An article written by Real Simple Magazine and published by ajc.com has suggested that front-loading washing machines can use up to 65 per cent less energy than their top-loading rivals.

In addition, the magazine stated that there are a number of other energy efficient aspects to consider.

A quick spin cycle will extract more water from clothing - meaning less time spent in a tumble dryer - while a washing machine that heats only the water it needs rather than relying on a household water tank could create a greater energy saving.

The Energy Saving Trust has advised consumers shopping for new appliances to look for the Energy Saving Recommended logo.

According to the group, Energy Saving Recommended products include energy efficient washing machines and boilers, as well as lightbulbs and double glazing.ADNFCR-1454-ID-18550664-ADNFCR
