Properties that have a good energy efficiency rating are more likely to lure tenants, an expert has said.
Anthony Zahra, a spokesperson from the National Landlords' Association, said that the launch of new
Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) in Scotland would be important for both landlords and tenants.
He commented: " We've given out over 2000
EPCs already and generally landlords have been fairly positive towards it it is another piece of regulation, but if you have got an energy efficient property that will show up on the
EPC then tenants are going to be more attracted to those sorts of properties.
"Landlords are already investing in energy saving measures prior to the launch of the
EPC and this is in response to growing market demand for energy efficient properties."
He added that many were responding positively to the changes as they would lower bills during a difficult economic time.
Since January 4th, all landlords with new tenants must provide them with an
EPC or be at risk of a fine of £5,000.
