Kitchen manufacturer 'pledges zero carbon commitment'

Category: Sustainable Building Professionals & Materials (14.05.2008)

A kitchen manufacturer has signed up to the government's zero carbon strategy, edie.net has reported.

Rixonway Kitchens, based in Yorkshire, announced it has signed the 2016 Commitment, a pledge which aims to make all new-build homes in the UK constructed by that year carbon-neutral.

"As a company we are committed to driving sustainability throughout the business," said Nick Greenall, operations director at the firm.

Other eco-friendly initiatives undertaken by the kitchen manufacturer include a kitchen recycling scheme, which utilises a flexible wood disposal service to process waste generated during kitchen refurbishment.

Instead of being sent to landfills, this waste can be converted into a number of things, including biomass fuel and cattle bedding.

Rixonway Kitchens uses chipboard manufactured through environmentally-friendly means to produce more than 90 per cent of its products, its website claims.

These methods include harvesting 30 per cent of its timber through forest thinning from sustained resources, as well as utilising timber residue from local sawmills and other forms of recycled timber waste.ADNFCR-1454-ID-18531927-ADNFCR
