Energy efficient homes 'sell for more'

Category: Sustainable Building Professionals & Materials (22.07.2008)

With fuel prices rising and a greater awareness of environmental issues among consumers, homebuyers are prepared to pay more for energy-efficient properties.

This is according to an article in the Yorkshire Evening Post, which states that measures such as installing loft and cavity wall insulation can add to the value of a house.

In addition, putting in a full set of heating controls and sourcing heat from natural resources are recommended to people looking to sell their property, as is investing in an energy efficient boiler.

Indeed, according to the Energy Saving Trust, around 60 per cent of the carbon dioxide emissions created by the average gas-heated home are created by their boilers.

Commenting on the issue, Leeds estate agent Alan Cooke said: "Everyone is looking to make savings at the moment and if they can see that a house will cost less to run than another it's a big selling point."
